The Steel City of Pittsburg Pennsylvania

Pittsburgh city is found on the Pennsylvania state. It is situated to the southwestern periphery of the state and in the western side of the Appalachian Mountains foothills. Philadelphia city is located east of Pittsburgh, approximately 300 miles away. Two rivers, the Allegheny and Monongahela Rivers join at “the point”, forming the “Golden Triangle” upon which Pittsburgh lies.

In the first half of the twentieth century, Pittsburgh was recognized as powerhouse in the iron and steel manufacturing industry, with many steel mills and foundries. This is why the town is sometimes referred to as the “Steel City.” However, that has totally changed and anybody visiting the modern city would not believe that such a transformation ever took place. Instead, the city is now a technological center as well as a tourist destination. The Pittsburgh International Airport serves many airlines, linking Pittsburgh with the outside world.

When one opts to fly to the city via its airport, they are usually met by one of the most breathtaking sights. The view of the Golden Triangle together with the tall gleaming buildings located on it is something that many people would yearn to experience. The Golden Triangle is also home to other tourist attractions that include theatres, a symphony hall and an opera house. Cultural attractions are also evident in the town. The new baseball park, football stadium and the Science Center are found on the Allegheny banks.

The “South Side” offers many attractions including coffee shops, bistros, boutiques, restaurants and entertainment venues. It is found on the southern bank of river Monongahela. On the other hand, the area found on the northern side of Allegheny River is called the “North Side”. The new football stadium, new baseball stadium, the Pittsburgh Aviary, the Andy Warhol Museum and the Children’s Museum are all located here. Next to the Golden Triangle lies the “Strip District”. It is home to the popular Pittsburgh History Museum that many visitors find very interesting.

It is a 42 storey structure with unique rooms, some of which are nationality classrooms decorated by the particular country’s unique style. Next to the Cathedral of Learning is the Heinz Chapel and the Carnegie Library, Music Hall and Museum of Natural History and Art. The Schenly Park is found a short distance from the Cathedral of Learning and it is where the Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens are found. The Oakland neighborhood also has numerous medical, educational and entertainment centers. The cheap restaurants, bars and entertainment venues found here are major attractions to students who often go there to hangout.

Unlike most of the cities in the USA, the best shopping locales in Pittsburgh are not found in the city center, but rather in the suburban neighborhoods of the city. Some of the areas to shop include The Mall at Robinson which is located not so far away from the Pittsburgh Airport, the shopping district of new Waterfront , South Hills Village, Groove city and many more.
